OPIATES IN THE WORKPLACE

We will discuss the growing opioid epidemic and how it affects the workplace environment. We will look at how opiates have been misused since 2000 and current trends in treatment and recovery. We will examine specific workplace practices for screening, intervention and referral relevant to Human Resource frameworks. This will include reasonable suspicon and tangible tools for referral to treatment that will include but not limited to employee assistance programs. We will conclude with a look at what is to come regarding substance use disorders and recovery.

Objectives:

  1. Responding to workplace behavioral health issues appropriately.
  2. Understand the true impact of substances, specifically opiates on employees and their families.
  3. How substances affect productivity and the bottom line of a company.
  4. Learn to identify problem behavior indicators.

Presented by:Kaitline Blanco-Silva, CEO of Palmetto EAP

Kaitlin Blanco-Silva has 10 years’ experience in the behavioral health field as a master social worker, specifically substance use disorders. Kaitlin has worked as a clinical counselor, state administrator and executive Employee Assistance Professional. Kaitlin started her professional career working for the South Carolina Recovering Professional Program (SCRPP) as an intern, office manager, and case manager. After graduation, she took a full-time position as a substance use disorder clinical counselor and earned her certification in addictions counseling (CAC) at LRADAC in Richland County. Kaitlin then moved to the Department of Mental Health Morris Village as a case manager. Kaitlin went on to accept a position in the office of the director at South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Service. In 2015, Kaitlin took over as CEO of the Palmetto Employee Assistance Program. Kaitlin holds a position on the board for the South Carolina Employee Assistance Professional Association(SCEAPA) as well as the Courage Center in Lexington SC , an organization supporting youth substance recovery.
